Record Breaker Raonic Stuns Norris At Queens

Milos Raonic returned to grass court ATP action with a record breaking performance today. The 33 year old who unleashed an ATP record 47 aces (for a best of three set match) to beat Cam Norrie at Queens Club 67 63 76 (saving two match points).

Ranked 186, Raonic beat Jordan Thompson and Roberto Bautista Agut last week in ‘s-Hertogenbosch before losing to Alex deMinaur 57 26. Before last week, Raonic had not played since Indian Wells where he beat Sumit Nagal before giving Holger Rune a walkover win.

The former world no. 3 and former Wimbledon finalist made history today by acing Norrie 47 times, two more than the previous record held by Ivo Karlovic, which he achieved in Halle in 2015 vs Tomas Berdych. Ivo broke his own record of 44 aces in Zagreb in 2014.

With this kind of stunning, sharp and precise pressure performance by Raonic, he must now be considered a threat to possibly win Wimbledon. If the 8 time ATP title winner can continue to gain confidence and rhythm on his serve, and striking one of the most lethal shots in ATP history, he could beat anybody in the world.

Next at Queens Club, Raonic will face Taro Daniel or Taylor Fritz.

Today just added another dimension and level of intrigue to the 2024 Wimbledon Championships.

I think he can play the role of spoiler at Wimby, perhaps knocking one of the favorites out.

To me he looks 20 pounds overweight and winning seven matches in a row at Wimby might be impossible.

He’s not overweight at all, he’s always been a big body like Frankenstein and I’ve never seen him tired on court. Most dangerous floater in the draw for sure unless Alexander Popp gets a WC )
