The Wall

By Christian Koskorelos

Some say the wall is boring,
I say the wall gives you freedom, to be who ever you want.
The wall gives you freedom of expression,
You can be like Agassi, the next day Sampras,
the next hit a hundred two-hand backhands,
or the next, hit a thousand serves,
I have hit on many walls in my life….

Sanchez-Casal Academy, Patch Reef Park, Calvary Chapel in Fort Lauderdale, Pompano Beach,
and of course…Leonia (Overpeck Park, Wood Park)
Most recently Fort Lee on 6th Street, and Fort Lee Recreation Center, Hackensack at Carver Park, Oritani Field Club, a school in Hackensack with graffiti, a high school in Norwalk, Connecticut,

you can see many things when hitting against the wall,
once I saw a fight on the court between two doubles partners,

but above all, the wall is a freedom of expression,
the wall, gives you power, the wall,
can give you, success…

6th street Park,
cars roll by,
down a busy street,
a street where a school rests and exclusive condos,
I stand on my stage surrounded by cinder blocks and get down to business, as I hit against the green wall, with a cartoon face hanging over the edge, just above the white line.
I hit a forehand, and a car rolls by…
people cross, people walk by…
some walk behind, but I try my best not to scream,
kids walk by, and families
the sound of the tennis ball does not amuse some,
does not amuse any,
the neighborhood is quiet,
why, I do not know,
but I continue to strike – staring at the dark green wall in front of me,

it’s me against the world,
nobody knows what can happen next on 6th street,
maybe that’s the beauty of it,
maybe that’s the misery of it…too.

I don’t know why exactly but this is a very enjoyable read. To write something interesting about an inanimate object like a concrete wall takes a special talent. You have a very unique simple yet captivating writing style. Keep up the fine work my friend.

Whitman was a realist. He would go so in-depth into talking about it, then back out instantly saying something like – “but all in all, it’s just a wall with no feelings that you constantly hurt with a ball”

Yes I made that up on the spot. >.>

The article was also a nice and easy read.
